The Complexity - Design by Francois Coppex

Description:
Postgrade lectures in physics given during the six-months period 2001/2002 at the EPFL in the framework of the "Troisième cycle de la physique en Suisse romande".
This course is made of 7 chapters by different guest professors.

1. Michel Droz (UniGE): Introduction to complexity.
2. Bastien Chopard (UniGE): Cellular Automatas and Modelisation of Complex Systems.
3. Paolo De Los Rios (UNIL): Self-Organised Critical Systems.
4. Marco Tomassini (UNIL): Bio-Inspired Systems, Evolutionist Algorithms and Neural Networks.
5. Robin Gras (CMU): Adaptive Complex Systems applied to Bioinformatics.
6. Jean-Louis Deneubourg (ULB): Complexity and Self-Organisation among Social Insects.
7. Michel Droz (UniGE): Synthesis and Conclusions.

The main document (that may be downloaded below) as well an several appendixes were distributed on a CD-Rom. The contents of the CD-Rom may be downloaded from this page.

Language:
The official language is French (introduction and conclusion by Michel Droz). However all other chapters except the one by Robin Gras are written in English.

Appendixes:
* Lectures given by Bastien Chopard: animations of several cellular automatas mentioned in the main document. View them here.
* Lectures given by RobinGras: PDF including all the slides shown during the lectures of Robin Gras (221 pages). Download here.

Printing and viewing:
* The main document is designed for a printing on both sides of A4 paper format.
